This is video 1 of a series of videos over the next few weeks on the Trans Canada trail. When more videos are done links will be posted in this page.
Bob’s experience with the Trans Canada/Great /Kettle Valley Rail trail is unfortunately too similar to my experiences on the trail. There are sections that are good to ride and the scenery is always spectacular. Unfortunately too much of the trail is designated as multi use (read for motorised vehicles) Large portions of the trail have been turned over to industry to use as resource (primarily logging) extraction. When ATVs are allowed to use the trail and in particular motorbikes the trail is torn up and destroyed for other users. These sections of the trail can not be described as multi use. They are sections that the provincial and municipal governments have allowed dirt bike users to bully other users off the trail.
when riding or hiking these dirt bike destroys sections one can not enjoy the experience as they are too busy finding a way through the destroyed trail to enjoy the rest of the experience. Worse the trail is ripped and torn up so much that it contributes to erosion and situation of the surrounding creeks. Without proper maintenance dedicated to this trail one should consider the responsible governments as derelict in their duty to protect the environment.
