In conversation with Salvatore Vetro of Independent BC

Why we need more Independent Candidates in our elections and how to register as a candidate

In the accompanying video Salvatore Vetro the founder of Independent BC presents compelling and persuasive reasons why we need more independent candidates to run in our provincial and national elections. Until 1903 all candidates in BC were independent until a group that wished to attain more control of the people, the resources and wealth of B. C. formed the first political party in BC. Since then our governments have been on a down hill run as they take more of our rights, freedoms and wealth. Sal states the day of the party is over or as I think of it the party for the political parties is over.

No matter what side of the right/left wing spectrum or any other one we are on. Can anyone say they are represented by an MLA/MP that takes ones concerns and issues forward for the government of the day?

Sal points out part of the job description of an elected one is to hold townhall meetings/actively solicit the concerns and issues of their electorate where they hear the concerns of their local electorate and receive direction from their boss/employer. Now town hall meetings are rare and if they are held the MLA is more interested in telling the attendees how good a job they are doing and issue what amounts to proclamations from their party leader.

Independent BC on their web site lays out how to register as an independent candidate. It should be noted that here in BC after the election write is drop (which will be not latter than the end of September here in BC is 7 days). The instruction on how to file are here.

Yo run one needs to collect 75 signatures nominating them, of course themselves be eligible to run for election in BC pay $250 to Elections BC and file within 7 days of the writ being dropped. Nominators can be collected before the writ is dropped and are not required to vote for the candidate. N It could be said that all the nomination signature is, is acknowledging the candidates democratic right to stand for election.

To encourage the process of supporting and encouraging more independent candidates Sal at independent BC and BC Town Halls 2024

With you help we can turn back the clock in BC 120 when we had our last election for people that truly represented the wishes of their electorate.
