Today, a product called APEEL, or should this read Certified as Unsafe, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
I've been watching a bit about APEEL for a while, and become increasingly concerned, now it seems it's being unleashed upon our produce and of course is getting all the “this is wonderful the FDA has approved it and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation” behind it so we know it will be safe.
But when you start digging in a little deeper, and especially when
You look at this latest from the HighWire, he's got a 15 minute piece on APEEL and a little more on what it's about.
There's a lot of mysteries, we really don't know what all is in it. There's some major ingredients, which on the surface at least sound like they're quite safe.
But there's also some other emulsifiers, etc, which, any normal person should have a significant concern about what is in them. And of course, as I say, that it is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which to me is pretty much, you might as well say “certified unsafe”.
Some stores, you could obviously expect Walmart to be right in on it.
Smaller organic stores are beginning to state they do not/will not use the product, which is mentioned in the video, and hopefully some of the local ones will refuse the use of the product.
But when you see Whole Foods is using it, well, not that I particularly have much trust in any Amazon-owned company as being organic, I frankly don't trust them. Currently, they're quite happy to use the APEEL product.
I can appreciate APEEL will extend selflife they won't have to throw out as much food, but I don't think that's the criteria.
When you go to a health food store, I expect to have a choice of healthy foods to buy.
I encourage all of you to ask your local food suppliers, if they are using or accepting products that have been created with APEEL.
