Bill C18 is all about supporting the Deadstream media with tax dollars and nothing about supporting the the other honest media form independent sources
I keep regularly getting seeing things about Bill C18.
Well, Bill C18 is a non issue to most of us in the Alt Media.
Really all it is, is people like the Global Mail, The rest of the media, I'm not picking Global Mail in this case at all, but the rest of the media complaining that their print or their media is not getting the attention it deserves.
There's so much money going to Facebook at all that should really be coming to them.
Facebook's taken the attitude that, well, they're not going to pay the money in.
At this point, the free media is not going to be getting anything.
Well, really, it's not even censorship by the government of bad media like Facebook, Globe and Mail , National Post Global TV etc, it's just that shutting down because it doesn't meet their profit model.
In the media industry now, the profit model is pretty hard to come up with a good one.
The deadstream media is in pretty much in panic mode wanting more and more of what I guess we'd say subsidies from the taxpayers, the citizens of Canada, for years have not been producing the news that people want to read.
The alt media has stepped in to do that and is producing it and the deadstream media are reduced now to putting ads in their paper about how serious, how bad C18 is and how they're losing out on all this money.
Before that they were great proponents of free enterprise and this is just the other side of free enterprise. Let's face it, they're not producing a product people want, a product people want to advertise in, so of course they're losing money. That's the free enterprise despite what some seem to think. It's not just the right to make money, it's also the right to lose money if you make the wrong business decisions. That's exactly what the dead screen media has been bent on doing for the last number of years.
For the people in the Alt Media, many like myself are paying the bill ourselves. That means, for example, A while ago, it cost me $300 for a new set of mics.
That's an expense. I might make an attempt to recover it with a switch over to the paid subscriber on Substack.
Actually, it won't really be paid subscriber. What it will be is encouraging you to donate probably $5 a month towards me and the content for everyone whether you subscribe or not will still be free In this day and age we've gone to the point where you really can't charge for media content you can just hope that you put out sufficiently interesting content that some people are willing to pay
That's where I may be going in the next few months offering that opportunity.
For now, if you want to encourage me to go in that direction, you can click the pledge button that's on most of my substacks to pledge that when I do go that direction, I'll be receiving it.
Some of it comes to me, but other goes to substack. And while you might think, oh, that's just a charge
Substack is, I guess you could say footing the bill for my alt media and for a great many other people's alt media and they deserve money for it too and in a sense you're also contributing to them to encourage them to continue their program of making Alternative Media available and yes some of the Alternative Media is way out there crackpot media, others media that I don't agree with some I agree with.
But that's what it's all about is that we need all these ideas presented out there.
You have to use your own way of measuring determining what you feel is true media, what is fake media, what is important.
Of course, for each person that's going to be different.
But most importantly, alternate media is exposing you to different ideas for you to think about.
And in a sense, that's what the prime purpose of this channel is, is to encourage people to look at what they're getting in the media, whether it's from Alt or the deadstream which qualifies right under many cases as entertainment news but that's beside the point and for you to look at it think about is it plausible does that fit with other things that you know to be true where you see things going, that's where media has dropped down to it's we've got to in a sense become our own fact checkers, truth seekers to see what's going on a hopefully get the entire media industry back in line with what you can reasonably believe published.
Now I will do a little bit of a plug for one, Druthers Magazine which you can get at brothers.net link on the screen here and they have a couple of funding models that I thought I would bring up.
One is that if you want to get copies of them sent to you by mail or larger quantities to be shipped by freight to you.
I recently arranged to get 200 copies which costs $60 but that $60 only goes towards the shipping and the handling.
It does not pay for the printing costs which Druthers wants to
they have a regular donation drive that encouraging people to donate and that's really where media has come down to us that media that you like that you feel comfortable with that you feel is doing a good job of keeping you informed we should be donating to them and they do have a donation page which once again the link is on the screen here and encourage not just with your others with all media that if you like what they're doing.
They do have expenses, they do have costs.
In some many cases, they may have to be paying for staff to get the news out to you.
We have to support all these sources of media that are out there, do what we can, you obviously can't subscribe or support every single one of them that you see and like.
But at least the the main ones that shall we say ring a bell with you.
You should make a donation to find a way to help them continue their work.
