Nobel Winner Raised Safety Concerns About Only “Modestly” Effective mRNA Vaccines Drew Weisman noted in a paper in 2018

Coffee, Other News and More, Monday, October 9th, 2023.

Today I thought I'd bring up something rather surprising about a recent winner or one of the recent winners for the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his work on mRNA vaccinations.

Nobel Prize Winner Raised Safety Concerns About Only “Modestly„ Effective mRNA Vaccines.

The Nobel organization put out a brief bit of information here and we'll just take a quick glance at it. The facts about him, when he was born, he's a researcher from the U.S. The prize motivation for discovery concerning the nucleoside-based modifications that enable the development of effective mRNA vaccines against COVID-19.

He received the prize in 2023, but I think maybe we should take a bit of a look back what he said in 2018.

In the paper he was a coauthor “mRNA vaccines — a new era in vaccinology”

In the conclusion the Nobel Winner Raised Safety Concerns About Only “Modestly” Effective mRNA Vaccines Drew Weisman noted in a paper in 2018the authors noted:

Currently, mRNA vaccines are experiencing a burst in basic and clinical research.

The past two years or so have witnessed publications of dozens of preclinical and clinical reports showing the efficacy of these platforms.

Whereas the majority of the early work on mRNA vaccines focused on cancer applications, a number of the recent reports have demonstrated the potency and versatility of mRNA to protect against a wide variety of infectious pathogens including influenza virus, Ebola virus, Zika virus, Stratococcus, that preclinical studies have generated great optimism about the prospects and advantages of mRNA-based vaccines.

Two recent clinical reports have led to more tempered expectations.

In both trials, immunogenicity was more modest in humans than was expected based on animal models, and the side effects were not trivial. And we cautioned that these trials represent only two variations of the mRNA vaccine platforms.

They couldn't test the COVID vaccine but I think there he's suggesting the vaccines are not as effective as anticipated nor as safe when you think about it, that's two years before they started injecting or coming out with the mass vaccination against COVID.

A good question to ask is what changed? I doubt much has changed. I haven't been able to find a paper noting a great breakthrough in the safety or efficacy of the mRNA vaccines in that two-year period.

The current winner of the Nobel Prize wasn't particularly strong on using mRNA vaccines on humans in 2018, more study was needed.

Well, I guess we are getting more study.

They're studying the effects on the global population, he also felt that the side effects were not trivial.

Well, we're definitely seeing that in what's going on, the increased deaths.
